Description
Microsoft offers Windows 7 in six different editions including Starter, Professional, Home Premium, Ultimate, Enterprise, and OEM. All six different editions of the Windows 7 operating system are supported by both 32 and 64-bit systems. There are several different paths to getting Windows 7 Ultimate installed on your personal computer including purchasing a computer that already has it or upgrading your current operating system. Installing or upgrading to Windows 7 Ultimate will take roughly 30 minutes depending on the overall health and speed of the user’s computer.
Presentation Tools
Users who love Microsoft PowerPoint will adore two new features that are only available in Windows 7 Ultimate and Professional. Both of these editions give the user the option to connect their computer to a projector that is on the same network. The computer can be connected using a wired or wireless connection. Both editions also utilize a new feature called presentation mode. Any time the computer is connected to a projector presentation mode will disable the screensaver; hide any system messages; and shut down all instant messenger programs. The goal of presentation mode is to prevent any interruptions while the user is giving their presentation.
Networking
The networking information for each edition of Windows 7 is important for any users who will use their computer on a network, either at home or at work.

There are no clear differences when it comes to the number of Server Message Block (SMB) network connections that are allowed on the various editions of the Windows 7 operating system. All editions are capable of connecting 10 personal computers or devices to the same network at one time. The major difference between the various editions is the remote desktop feature. There are also some small variations in how the HomeGroup feature operates from one edition to the next.
Language Packs
One of the first noticeable differences between Windows 7 Ultimate and any other edition is that it comes with 30 additional language packs. These additional language packs play a massive role in the interface of this operating system as they provide the user with additional dialog boxes and menus. They also do not take up the operating system’s interface the same way manually installing language packs does. The user can always manually install these language packs to lesser editions of Windows 7; however, that will use 80 percent of the operating system interface.
Security
One of the major security features that set Windows 7 Ultimate apart from the lesser editions is called Applocker. Applocker is an application that gives the administrator of the computer the opportunity to create a list of programs that the other users are allowed to install and/or operate. This aggressive security feature might not be ideal for a personal computer at home, but it is perfect for a high security computer in the workplace.
Location Awareness
Most people purchase a laptop for its mobility. They take it to school, take it to work, and use it at home. One of the more frustrating parts of having a laptop is the fact that it needs to be reconnected to all of the local resources including the WiFi and the printer. Ultimate is the only edition of Windows 7 that has eliminated this hassle for laptop users who travel frequently. Laptops with Windows 7 Ultimate will automatically recognize the network and resources that are nearby. The laptop will make the necessary network connection adjustments so the user does not have to worry about locating a printer or reconnecting to the WiFi before they can get to work.
Advanced File Management
Offline files are out of sight and out of mind until the user realizes that they need to find one of them. Windows 7 Ultimate and Professionalallow the user the opportunity to set files to remain available when the computer is offline. This will save the files to the machine, so the user
